Communication Professional, Writer, Speaker, Coach
Shameela Essack has 20 years of diverse work experience that reflects her endless curiosity of the people and the world around her. Her humble beginnings are rooted in the former township Lenasia, in the South of Johannesburg.
Shameela comes from a long line of entrepreneurs who worked hard and was raised by parents who were highly intelligent but due to poverty only completed primary school. This background which included going with her widowed grandmother to her general dealer shop in Kliptown (now Freedom Square) in Soweto has given her the drive to succeed no matter the obstacles and is on an on-going life mission to make a positive impact on those around her.
Shameela has a Bachelor of Social Work, a BA (Hons) in Drama and Film and an MA in Journalism and Media Studies from Wits University. Cognisant of the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) world we are now living in she constantly updates her knowledge so that she has cutting-edge information to benefit her clients and the projects she works on.
Shameela has sharpened her skills in Strategy and Entrepreneurship (Gordon Institute of Business Science) and qualified as a Business and Life Coach (Inner Life Skills).
She is a COMENSA (Coaching and Mentors South Africa) member and regularly attends industry events. One of Shameela’s most treasured qualifications is that of a BSc which is an insider term for the unwritten skills, life experience, and street smarts learnt “Behind Shop Counter” in the family store where working from a young age was a rite of passage.
